The central library

The library of the Technical Institution – Najaf was established in 1978. The library contains a large reading room for 250 students, a periodical for scientific journals and magazines, large storage containing 28862 books from different scientific fields, as well as 704 scientific, cultural, religious and various magazines. The library is located in the center of the institution. The central library of the Institute is one of the most important stations for providing scientific services to students and researchers from inside and outside Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. It helps the students by offering a wide range of resources. Moreover, guests visiting the Institution throughout the year find it most helpful. In addition, the librarians participate in all activities and events established within the Institution and the University and the exhibitions, competitions and the registration and reception of students. The Library offers a wide range of services, including the borrowing of books and resources for students and employees on a regular basis. As well as it provides free books for the students of the Institution and controls the scientific sections of all the departments of the institution through the “free education” section. Moreover, the institution’s central library is considered as a suitable environment for students and researcher to enjoy their reading by offering a wide range of books and references.

Vision

The main vision is that the library occupies a prominent status among the Iraqi scientific and educational institutions, a status that enhances the reputation of Al-Furat Al-Awsat University.

Mission

The main mission of the central library is to keep up with the scientific development taken place in different scientific fields in order to help the students and researchers enhancing their knowledge.

Objectives

The main goal is that the users of the library be able to access all scientific, medical, and modern technology resources.

The tasks of  the central library

  1. Borrowing books by using a special ID offered for the students and the employees.
  2. Registering the information of each borrowed book, such information include the author’s name, the title of the book, the date borrowed and the due date.
  3. Following up the borrowed books and informing the student when to return them.
  4. Renewing the period of borrowing in case the students need that. Nevertheless, this happens only after checking that the book is not missing.
  5. In case the student did not return the book within the time, an official notice would be send to him through the dean’s office.
  6. Following up all the exhibitions and the new publications in order to keep it up with everything new and scientific.
  7. The director of the library conducts continuous meeting with the heads of the departments and the teachers to find out what they need and provide it.
  8. Offering special ID for students and employees.
  9. Making an annual inventory for books.
  10. Estimating the value of the books denoted to the library.
  11. Taking a direct part in the process of students’ registration.
  12. Doing the statistics usually required by the university.
  13. Loaning more than 50 books daily for students to help them in their projects and papers.
  14. Open to public from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M.
  15. The director of the library continuously follows up the books borrowed by the employees.
  16. Sorting and encoding the books based on Dewey coding system.
