Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University hosts the Iraqi Universities Tennis Championship for students and faculty members

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and under the supervision of the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, the university hosted the Iraqi Universities Table Tennis Championship (for male and female students as well as faculty members) in public and private universities.

It is noteworthy that the championship is held within the program of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority – Student Activities Department for the academic year 2024-2025, first semester, hosted by Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and supported by a number of public and private universities, with the participation of 54 universities.

The ceremony was attended by the University President, Assistant President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Waddai, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Al-Machtoumi, the Deans of the Diwaniyah and Kufa Technical Institutes, Prof. Dr. Zaid Al-Dulaimi and Prof. Dr. Athir Obaidi, and a number of academic and sports elites, department directors, heads of delegations, and students from the participating universities.

The ceremony included a parade of the participating teams, led by the Iraqi flag bearers, centralized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research flag, and followed by a parade of the university teams participating in the championship, after which the Iraqi national anthem was played.

The University President delivered a speech in which he welcomed the participating universities, appreciating their wonderful presence in this unique event. He pointed out that this event highlights the firm commitment of the university to supporting sports activities as an integral part of its academic and educational mission.

He stated that student activities constitute one of the important parts that contribute to the educational process. He also renewed his unlimited support for holding qualitative activities that enhance the development of university sports, aiming to be a model that emulates professionalism and organization in a way that highlights the bright side of higher education and scientific research institutions.

Furthermore, he emphasized the continuous efforts to create an attractive educational environment, in which the students represent an important pillar. He also pointing out that the university adopts all student activities and events, especially sports, in addition to cultural, social, artistic activities, and appreciates their efforts.

At the end of his speech, Al-Zubaidi wished all participants a pleasant stay and the best results. He extended his thanks and appreciation to the ministerial delegation, the championship referees, the participating delegations and all organizing committees in the Student Activities and Media Department for their distinguished efforts in organizing this great sports carnival.

In the same context, Dr. Ammar Al-Zubaidi, representative of the ministerial delegation, delivered a speech in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation to the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, the host universities, and all workers in the relevant committees for the success and distinction of organizing the championship.

Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University is always distinguished and supportive of all the events held by the Ministry. This is in line with the vision and orientations of the Ministry in supporting students’ activities, developing their talents, and supporting them continuously.

It is noteworthy that the Olympic champion who won the gold medal in the Paralympic Games (Paris) was the Iraqi player Najla Imad, a student in the College of Physical Education, University of Diyala. She was honored by the President of the University and the representative of the Ministry in appreciation of her efforts and distinguished activity. The team leaders of the participating universities were also honored.

The championship matches will continue for five days in the central sports hall at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University Presidency in Kufa.
