The academic department is the basic scientific unit in the university, and it is managed by the department council and its head, who is appointed by a decision of the university president based on the recommendation of the dean of the college or institute.
1- Discussing study curricula, their details, and textbooks; recommending modifications or replacements based on faculty feedback recommending the department's needs for faculty and technical staff, and inviting visiting professors.
2- Approving research project proposals from department members and recommending necessary support to accomplish them.
3- Supporting academic research and publications, as well as promoting student research and providing resources for their completion.
4- Implementing the decisions of the College Council.
5- Forming educational and scientific committees as needed.
6- Overseeing teaching methods, training approaches, and ensuring faculty and staff perform their duties effectively.
7- Continuously updating academic curricula and materials to align with advancements in knowledge and technology.
8- Delegating specific authorities to the department head when necessary.
Scientific Authorities
1- Implementing decisions made by the University and College Councils related to the department.
2- Managing the scientific, administrative, educational, cultural, financial, and student-related affairs of the department.
3- Monitoring teaching progress and ensuring faculty members fulfill their responsibilities.
4- Preparing scientific, periodic, and annual reports on departmental activities and submitting them to the dean.
5- Preparing training programs for students.
6- Guiding the preparation of academic theses to address national needs.
7- Forming examination committees within the department.
8- Recommending updates to postgraduate curricula based on departmental resolutions.
9- Recommending approvals for academic promotions and supporting research proposals.
10- Nominating faculty members for various committees and recommending their participation in administrative, scientific, and technical activities.
11. Proposing the issuance of administrative orders for university leave and additional lectures based on the approval of the College Council.
12. Proposing experts to consider academic promotions for department lecturers.
13. Approving the nomination of faculty members to participate in technical, administrative and scientific committees.
14. Directing inquiries to faculty members when they are absent or late for official work.
15- Communicating with other departments and institutions regarding academic and teaching affairs with prior approval from the dean.
16. Discussing the curricula and their terms and making proposals regarding them.
17. Determining the department’s teaching, technical and administrative needs based on the recommendation of the scientific department.
18. Proposing the number of students and the conditions for admission to the scientific department according to the capacity.
19. Distributing the study materials to the faculty members in the scientific department based on what the administrative department decides.
Administrative Authorities
1- Approving annual raises and recommending promotions for department staff.
2- Granting ordinary leave for university staff according to applicable laws.
3- Recommending commendations for distinguished performance within the department.
4- Nominating staff members for scholarships and study leaves.
5- Allocating tasks among department members to serve the academic interests of the department and issuing relevant administrative orders.
6- Convening department council meetings.
7- Issuing administrative orders for external lecturers in coordination with the college administration and overseeing the disbursement of their payments.
