The university council holds monthly meetings to exercise its authority and fulfill its responsibilities, ensuring the efficient operation of the university and the realization of its required objectives:
1. Approving the university’s policy and its development in scientific, technical, cultural, and administrative fields.
2. Recommending the establishment of colleges and institutes in line with the university’s academic progress.
3. Approving plans to establish academic departments, branches, and scientific centers.
4. Establishing postgraduate studies in various specializations within the university’s colleges and institutes in accordance with applicable regulations and requirements.
5. Recommending the appointment of deans for colleges and institutes based on proposals from the university president.
6. Granting professorship titles to faculty members at the university’s colleges and institutes.
7. Approving academic leaves for faculty members within and outside Iraq in accordance with the University Service Law.
8. Recommending admission plans for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the colleges and institutes.
9. Approving scientific research plans in the university's colleges, institutes, and research centers.
10. Periodically reviewing and revising curricula to ensure continuous improvement in academic standards, aligning with contemporary developments and technological advancements in higher education.
11. Approving the consideration of the academic year as a non-failing year for students who face unforeseen circumstances beyond their control, preventing them from attending classes or participating in final examinations, based on the council’s assessment and recommendation by the university president.
