The STAAD.Pro V8i Graphical User Interface (GUI) is normally used to create all input specifications and all output reports and displays (See the Graphical Environment manual). These structural modeling and analysis input specifications are stored in STAAD input file – a text file with extension, .STD. When the GUI opens an existing model file, it reads all of the information necessary from the STAAD input file. You may edit or create this STAAD input file and then the GUI and the analysis engine will both reflect the changes.
The STAAD input file is processed by the STAAD analysis “engine” to produce results that are stored in several files (with file extensions such as ANL, BMD, TMH, etc.). The STAAD analysis text file (file extension .ANL) contains the printable output as created by the specifications in this manual. The other files contain the results (displacements, member/element forces, mode shapes, section forces/moments/displacements, etc.) that are used by the GUI in the post processing mode.

Foundation engineering or Foundation design Technology is the application and practice of the basic principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics (geotechnical engineering) in the design of foundations for various engineering structures. These foundations include columns and walls of buildings, bridges, embankments, dams, and others. The Foundation engineering also involves the analysis and design of earth structures such as retaining walls and sheet-pile. These lectures have been prepared, in general, for the purpose of expanding the Foundation engineering of these engineering facilities.
تعتبر هندسة الأسس او تقنيات تصميم الاسس تطبيق وممارسة المبادئ الأساسية للميكانيكا التربة وميكانيكا الصخور (أي الهندسة الجيوتقنية) في تصميم الأسس لمختلف المنشات الهندسية. وتشمل هذه الأسس الأعمدة والجدران للمباني ، وجسور الدعامات ، والسدود ، وغيرها. كما تنطوي هندسة الاسس على تحليل و تصميم المنشات الترابية الساندة مثل الجدران الساندة والصفائح اللوحية. لقد تم إعداد هذه المحاضرات ، بشكل عام ، لغرض التوسع في جوانب الاسس الهندسية لهذه المنشات الهندسية.

الهندسة البيئية (: Environmental Engineering) هو مجال يقوم على استعمال التطبيقات الهندسية والعلمية لخدمة البيئة وحمايتها ويشمل مجال واسع من المشاريع ذات العلاقة. يعمل مهندسو البيئة في القطاعات الصناعية والبحثية لانجاز حلول تهدف للتحكم بالتلوث بالإضافة لتنويع مصادر الطاقة وزيادتها إلى أكبر حد ممكن. كما تشمل اهتمامات مهندس البيئة مواضيع أخرى مثل قطاع المياه وإدارة الملوثات والتحكم بنوعية الهواء والحفاظ على التربة من التلوث والتخطيط المدني.
