Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University has achieved a remarkable milestone by securing an advanced competitive position in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025 for Sustainable Development.
The university ranked 10th among 91 Iraqi universities and colleges and fell within the global rank range of 1001–1500 out of 2,318 participating universities worldwide.
The official results highlighted the university’s excellence across several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:

🔹 Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- 7th in Iraq
- Global rank: 301–400
🔹 Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals

- Global rank: 801–1000
🔹 Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being
- 13th in Iraq
- Global rank: 401–600
🔹 Goal 14: Life Below Water
- 2nd locally
- Global rank: 201–300
These results reflect the university’s continuous progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially amid an increase in Iraqi universities participating—from 75 last year to 91 this year—demonstrating growing awareness of global rankings among higher education institutions in Iraq.
The THE Impact Rankings are recognized as one of the most prominent global rankings, evaluating universities based on their commitment to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, including quality education, health, clean energy, partnerships, industry, and innovation, with participation from 2,389 universities across 127 countries.
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, expressed pride in this achievement, commended the efforts of all committees and staff who contributed to this progress, and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to enhancing its academic and institutional standing.
