Powers of the University Council

The University Council meets once a month and exercises the following powers to manage the university's affairs and achieve its objectives:
1. Approving the university's policies and development in scientific, technical, cultural, and administrative fields.
2. Recommending the establishment of colleges and institutes required for the university's scientific progress.
3. Approving plans to open academic departments, branches, and research centers.
4. Establishing postgraduate studies in various specializations within the university's colleges and institutes according to regulations and requirements.
5. Recommending the appointment of deans of colleges and institutes upon the proposal of the university president.
6. Granting the rank of Professorship to faculty members in the university's colleges and institutes.
7. Approving academic sabbaticals for lecturers inside and outside Iraq in accordance with the University Service Law.
8. Recommending admission plans for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in colleges and institutes.
9. Approving scientific research plans in the university's colleges, institutes, and research centers.
10. Reviewing and updating curricula periodically to enhance academic quality in line with modern scientific and technological developments.
11. Approving the consideration of an academic year as a non-failing year for students who face circumstances beyond their control preventing them from attending classes or final exams, based on the council's evaluation and the recommendation of the university president.
12. Approving the consideration of an academic year as a non-failing year for university students due to exceptional national circumstances.
13. Approving a third extension for postgraduate students upon the university president's recommendation.
14. Granting the title of Emeritus Professor according to the regulations governing emeritus status.
