Middle Euphrates Technical University organized a parliamentary simulation workshop attended by representatives from the Independent High Electoral Commission and Dr. Sanaa Al-Mousawi, Adviser to the Prime Minister.
The workshop was opened with a welcoming speech by Ms. Ikhlas Razaq Naham, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, who emphasized that the workshop aims to empower female students to understand parliamentary mechanisms, candidacy procedures, and the development of electoral programs, as part of the university’s responsibility to enhance civic and political awareness.
The event saw participation from students of the Forensic Evidence Department at the Technical Institute of Najaf, alongside other university staff members. The workshop featured interactive sessions where attendees discussed electoral programs, women’s issues, and topics related to society and the university, followed by a symbolic voting exercise in the simulation hall.
During her session, Dr. Sanaa Al-Mousawi shared a real-life experience highlighting the challenges women face in reaching legislative positions. She affirmed that Iraqi women are fully capable of representing their people effectively when provided with support, determination, and opportunity.
Representatives of the Independent High Electoral Commission provided a simplified explanation of the candidacy process, biometric registration, the importance of supporting competent women in the electoral process, and the significance of electoral quotas.
The workshop aimed to:
Provide participants with a practical understanding of parliamentary formation and decision-making.
Enhance critical thinking in evaluating candidates based on competence and electoral programs.
Open new horizons for female students to envision real future political roles.
Emphasize the importance of institutional support for women’s representation in decision-making positions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, several recommendations were made:
Organize similar workshops across other colleges and technical institutes.
Continue the partnership between the university and the Electoral Commission to promote electoral awareness within the academic community.
Establish a database of female students interested in political participation to empower them in future stages.
