A master’s thesis was discussed at Al-Musayyab Technical College at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (Design of a smart inverter for distributed energy sources based on artificial intelligence techniques).
The study presented by researcher Bushra Mahmoud Omran from the Department of Electrical Engineering Technologies aimed to develop a smart inverter system capable of integrating (1 MW of solar power generation and 700 KW of battery storage) with the national grid and feeding a secondary power station in Iraq. The work focuses on improving power quality by reducing Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and improving energy efficiency through advanced control strategies and improving the energy structure and sustainability in Iraq.
The study confirmed that the ANN-based control system and the use of PQ control strategy in this study showed an improvement in synchronization with the national grid, stability of the designed grid, power quality and energy efficiency, where a significant reduction in THD to (0.45%) was achieved, power efficiency increased by (25%) and balanced power flow was ensured under changing supply and demand conditions.
It is recommended to study the integration of ANN with other control methods such as fuzzy logic or predictive control to enhance the performance of smart inverters in complex and dynamic network environments, and to implement the proposed smart inverter system and test it physically in an Iraqi power plant to gain insights into its practical performance and identify potential areas for improvement.
