Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and supervised by Professor Dr. Fadel Mohammed Thaher, Dean of Karbala Polytechnic College, the newly established Karbala Polytechnic College was officially inaugurated. This comes following the strategic decision by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to convert technical institutes into polytechnic colleges, as part of efforts to develop technical education and enhance its practical capabilities.
The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a welcoming speech delivered by the Dean, Professor Dr. Fadel Mohammed Thaher, who greeted the attendees, including the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi, his assistants for scientific and administrative affairs, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadai and Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Majtoumi, as well as a number of prominent academic and official figures.
In his speech, the Dean emphasized that the establishment of the Polytechnic College represents a significant step in the development of technical education, highlighting the college’s commitment to advancing the scientific and practical skills of its students.
Meanwhile, the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi, expressed pride in this achievement, commending the efforts of the college administration and staff in successfully implementing the institutional transformation, and affirming that Karbala Polytechnic College will become a leading center for applied education in the governorate.
The ceremony also included speeches by notable academic and official figures, including Professor Dr. Firas Al-Muslmawi, Member of the Higher Education Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, and Professor Dr. Mohsen Al-Kanani, Chair of the Higher Education Committee in Karbala Governorate Council. Official guests included Ms. Ibtisam Al-Hilali, Member of the Iraqi Parliament, Professor Dr. Muneer Al-Da’ami, Head of the Iraqi Academics Syndicate, Karbala Branch, Dr. Ali Kamouna, UN Development Program Director, along with other academic dignitaries.
On the sidelines of the celebration, the Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University Individual Sports Championship was inaugurated, hosted by the college and featuring participation from all university branches, in an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and competitive spirit.
The ceremony concluded with the honoring of distinguished guests in recognition of their active participation and continuous support for educational and technical progress, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and pride in the university’s new academic achievement with the establishment of Karbala Polytechnic College.
