Under the direct guidance of the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, and under the direct supervision of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadai, the Continuing Education Division at the Central Library organized a training course entitled “Selecting a Research Topic and Formulating the Research Problem.” The course was conducted ضمن its scientific plan aimed at enhancing the competencies of researchers and postgraduate students in the preparation of rigorous academic research.

The course was delivered by:

  • Assistant Professor Dr. Sahira Ayed Abdul-Sahib, Director of the Central Library Department – Course Rapporteur.

  • Dr. Alaa Mohsen Ubaid – Directorate General of Education in Al-Qadisiyah.

  • Dr. Murtadha Abdul-Jawad – Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance.

The course aimed to highlight the scientific foundations adopted in selecting a research topic and to clarify the precise criteria for defining a research title characterized by originality, clarity, and applicability. It also outlined the methodological steps for formulating the research problem in a manner that accurately and systematically reflects the scientific gap to be addressed.

Furthermore, the course addressed the distinction between the fundamental components of research, particularly the differences among the research title, research problem, and research objectives. Practical applications and illustrative models were presented, contributing to the consolidation of theoretical concepts and strengthening the participants’ applied skills.

The course witnessed distinguished engagement from attendees through questions, scholarly interventions, and discussions of their research experiences, which enriched the training sessions and facilitated the exchange of expertise among participants.

This course forms part of the Continuing Education Division’s ongoing efforts at the Central Library to support the advancement of scientific research within the university and to foster a supportive academic environment for researchers—particularly postgraduate students—by offering specialized training programs that enhance their competencies and enable them to produce rigorous research in accordance with recognized academic standards.

At the conclusion of the course, the Continuing Education Division reaffirmed its commitment to organizing further scientific courses and workshops aimed at strengthening the academic and research standards of university affiliates and promoting a culture of rigorous scientific inquiry.
