Under the direction of Hassan Latif Kadhim Al-Zubaidi, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University has established a nursery on campus for the propagation of evergreen trees from seeds, with the aim of producing large numbers of seedlings annually in order to contribute to the improvement of the university environment.
This project comes within the framework of the university’s efforts to enhance environmental sustainability across its institutions, given the important role of trees in improving the climate, reducing pollution, and beautifying public spaces, in addition to supporting agricultural and research projects. The initiative represents a strategic step that combines environmental impact with scientific value.
The propagation program included a wide variety of seeds for numerous plants and trees, including species not commonly available in local nurseries, such as Mangrove, Farfar Tree, Custard Apple, African lavender, Papaya, lemon eucalyptus, Moringa, yellow and red bottlebrush varieties, Neem, sisam, aromatic terminalia, Indian cactus, and others.
The project also contributes to providing a sustainable source of seeds, ensuring the continuity of propagation efforts and the distribution of seedlings across the university’s various campuses in different provinces, thereby reinforcing the university’s commitment to a sustainable academic environment.
