The President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, received a delegation from the Scientific Research Authority, headed by the Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, Professor Dr. Abdul Majeed Benamara, along with his accompanying delegation, to discuss prospects for scientific and research cooperation between the two sides in a way that contributes to supporting the advancement of scientific research, intellectual development, and culture in Iraq.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen partnerships among Arab research institutions, exchange expertise, and support joint research programs and projects, contributing to the development of the scientific research and innovation system at the Arab level.
The visit was attended by the University’s Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadai, the Administrative Assistant, Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul Mohsen Al-Majtomi, as well as a number of deans of colleges and technical institutes at the Najaf, Kufa, and Babylon locations, in addition to several directors of scientific departments at the University Presidency.
The meeting included discussions on enhancing academic and scientific cooperation between the Scientific Research Authority and the University, and opening new horizons for partnerships in research and intellectual fields. Such cooperation aims to serve the academic process, support scientific projects, and facilitate the exchange of expertise among Iraqi scientific institutions.
For his part, the University President presented a detailed overview of the University, its formations, objectives, vision, and future plans. The presentation covered several key areas, including inclusive education, labor market-oriented programs, and training initiatives aimed at qualifying graduates in accordance with employment requirements.
The presentation also highlighted the medical rehabilitation sector and the University’s role in this field through the establishment of the Technical College of Medical Rehabilitation and Prosthetics – Najaf, the Medical Rehabilitation Department at the College of Health and Medical Technologies – Kufa, and the Prosthetics Manufacturing Technologies Department at the Technical Institute – Kufa.
Furthermore, the University’s efforts in adopting entrepreneurial projects for graduates through industrial advisory councils at the University and its affiliated institutions were discussed, based on labor market requirements. The presentation also addressed developing graduates’ soft skills through qualification programs conducted in cooperation with the Najaf Chamber of Industry and the private sector, as well as entrepreneurship training courses implemented as part of the Prime Minister’s initiative.
The presentation further addressed the development of technical and vocational education in Iraq with the aim of establishing effective partnerships with civil society organizations. In the field of developing research expertise, the University has sought to diversify its postgraduate programs through the establishment of the Higher Institute of Nanotechnology for Postgraduate Studies, while continuing efforts to enhance research and consultancy capabilities.
The University President called upon the Scientific Research Authority to collaborate in developing a future roadmap that supports sustainable projects, business incubators, and innovation laboratories aimed at training university youth.
The President expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the visit, emphasizing the University’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Scientific Research Authority in order to achieve common objectives and enhance the role of scientific and cultural institutions in serving development and knowledge.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils presented the Federation’s shield to the President of the Scientific Research Authority in recognition of the Authority’s efforts in supporting scientific research and strengthening Arab cooperation. In return, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi presented the University’s shield to the Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils and the accompanying delegation.
