The workshop was held under the auspices and organization of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the European Union and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), from 9 to 11 August 2026 in Baghdad.

Organized as part of the third phase of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Development Project under the theme “Green and Digital Technical and Vocational Education and Training to Enhance Employment Opportunities in Iraq,” the workshop aimed to develop practical and effective implementation plans for integrating the requirements of the green transition and modern digital skills into technical curricula and educational programs. These efforts are intended to enhance the quality and efficiency of academic outcomes and improve graduates’ employment prospects in both the public and private sectors.

The workshop featured a comprehensive analytical presentation delivered by UNESCO expert Mr. Ghassan Al-Saffar, entitled “Key Concepts and Indicators of the Iraqi Labor Market.” The presentation addressed mechanisms for aligning strategic plans with emerging developments and the actual requirements of sustainable development.

The participation also reflected the spirit of integration and the shared commitment of the colleges and the University Presidency to advancing technical and vocational education and strengthening its institutional development.

As part of the workshop activities, the Dean of Najaf Polytechnic College delivered a presentation outlining the College’s implementation plan and comprehensive strategic roadmap for the coming years. He also reviewed mechanisms for systematic curriculum modernization, the expansion of digital applications, and the incorporation of energy-efficiency and environmental sustainability concepts into laboratories and educational workshops.

Prof. Dr. Al-Abdali emphasized that the participation was in line with the contemporary directions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its international partners toward promoting the concepts of the green economy and digital transformation.

Al-Abdali stated:

“We have been keen to develop a comprehensive and carefully designed plan for the coming years aimed at reshaping the educational and training environment at Najaf Polytechnic College. The plan seeks to ensure that our students acquire the digital and green skills most in demand in the labor market, enabling our graduates to make an effective contribution to building sustainable economic and investment development in Iraq.”

This participation further underscores the academic leadership of Najaf Polytechnic College and Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in adopting national and international initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of technical education and creating promising future opportunities for Iraqi youth.
