The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research laid the foundation stone for the British University in Iraq, emphasizing the importance of expanding international academic partnerships and attracting reputable universities and educational institutions in a way that contributes to the development of the higher education system and the advancement of academic programs.
In his speech during the foundation stone ceremony, the Minister emphasized that the establishment of the British University in Iraq comes within the Ministry’s approach to internationalizing higher education and opening up to global academic experiences. He noted that the Ministry is working to attract international students, expand cooperation with universities worldwide, and host branches of distinguished foreign educational institutions.
He added that international academic partnerships and the global educational presence in Iraq represent an important pathway for exchanging expertise, localizing knowledge, and enhancing the academic competitiveness of Iraqi universities. They also provide students with educational opportunities in accordance with international academic standards within Iraq.
The Minister of Higher Education further noted that the Ministry continues to develop higher education pathways, foremost among them the implementation of the Bologna Process, which promotes student-centered education, focuses on strengthening and developing scientific and practical skills, and supports the modernization of academic programs in line with labor market requirements and global developments.
The Minister of Higher Education stressed the importance of high-quality educational projects in developing the academic and research environment and strengthening Iraq’s presence within the international higher education system. He also commended the efforts that contributed to the completion of the British University in Iraq project.
