Under the patronage and in the presence of Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, the university’s staff commemorated Iraqi National Sovereignty Day, observed on September 30, reaffirming their pride in the national identity and reinforcing the values of belonging and loyalty to the homeland.
This morning, the Presidency of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University held a central ceremony to mark Iraqi National Sovereignty Day, under the gracious patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of the University, and in the presence of the Assistant Presidents, Deans, Heads of Departments, as well as a large gathering of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surat Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the souls of Iraq’s martyrs, followed by the national anthem and the raising of the Iraqi flag in the courtyard of the University Presidency, in an atmosphere filled with pride and a strong sense of national identity.
In his address on the occasion, the University President emphasized that National Sovereignty Day is not merely a passing national commemoration, but rather a pivotal milestone in Iraq’s modern history. He noted that the occasion embodies the will of the Iraqi people to reclaim their independent national decision-making and exercise full sovereignty over their land, airspace, and waters. He further stressed that universities today bear a major responsibility for safeguarding intellectual and scientific sovereignty by preparing an informed generation capable of building the nation and defending its achievements.
Al-Zubaidi further stated that, as Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University commemorates this historic occasion, it reaffirms its commitment to its national mission of supporting the progress of the Iraqi state and its institutions, as well as contributing actively to the achievement of sustainable development, which represents the true expression of economic and scientific sovereignty.
The ceremony featured a variety of activities, including poetry recitals celebrating love for the homeland, documenting the journey toward the restoration of national sovereignty, and highlighting key national milestones in Iraq’s contemporary history.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the university’s staff renewed their pledge of allegiance and loyalty to Iraq, affirming their continued commitment as dedicated servants of science and knowledge in support of the nation’s sovereignty, dignity, and honor.
