The activities of the 18th Session of the Iraq-India Joint Committee concluded in the Indian capital New Delhi which included a series of meetings and encounters between the Iraqi and Indian sides that resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding for bilateral cooperation between the two countries in a number of fields.

The Iraqi side was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister for Energy and Oil Minister Mr. Hayan Abdul Ghani in a high-level delegation that included a number of representatives of Iraqi ministries.

Professor Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, President of Al-Fourt Al-Awsat Technical University, participated in the discussions between the two sides in his capacity as a representative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

Al-Zuhairy stated in a statement to the university’s media that the axis related to the higher education sector included a number of items that included cooperation between the universities affiliated with both parties through the conclusion of joint memoranda of understanding and the possibility of increasing the number of scholarships offered by the Indian side to obtain a doctorate and the readiness of Iraqi universities to offer study grants to obtain primary and postgraduate degrees in the same number granted to Iraq by the Indian side, in addition to the latest initiative launched by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Na’im Al-Aboudi under the title “Study in Iraq” and through the electronic portal of the initiative.

The items also included cooperation in the field of scientific research, the curricula approved in the universities affiliated with both parties, as well as cooperation in the medical field and the establishment of workshops and specialized courses for capacity building and overcoming the obstacles facing Iraqi students wishing to study in Indian universities.
