The President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, participated in the celebration organized by the Ministry of Planning today, Wednesday, in cooperation with the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, and Scientific Research, on the International Day of Education for the year 2025…

The celebration, which was under the slogan (Education is the key to building human capital), was opened with a speech by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning, Dr. Muhammad Ali Tamim, in which he stressed: –

■ The Ministry’s keenness to develop and diversify specializations and academic programs in undergraduate and graduate studies in all Iraqi universities, in a way that contributes to improving the quality of the educational process.

■ Pointing out the creation of (561) postgraduate programs in government universities in Baghdad and the governorates during the past three years, amounting to

  • (171) doctoral programs
  • (358) master’s programs
  • (32) higher diploma programs

■ The Ministry’s interest in strengthening the role of the private sector in the field of university education, alongside the government sector, to bridge the spatial education gap and at the level of specializations by creating a number of private universities, colleges, institutes and departments in Baghdad and the governorates during the past three years, amounting to: –

  • (20) private universities
  • (158) colleges
  • (498) departments
  • (11) institutes, including (56) scientific departments.

■ Stressing the Ministry’s readiness to be the supporting and partnering body in achieving the desired goals to reach fair and high-quality education.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Adnan Al-Jumaili, pointed out: –

■ The Ministry has achieved progress in various aspects of higher education, which required special attention to enhance the quality of institutional and programmatic performance, and to reach the internationalization of higher education, and to establish partnerships and exchange experiences between local educational sectors and the global academic community.

■ The Ministry has worked to enhance the capacity of universities by improving the educational climate and providing services, as the role of educational institutions represents a basic developmental pillar that is manifested in an appropriate scientific environment, possessing the efficiency and ability to apply scientific knowledge,

While the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Mahdi Al-Awadi, explained: –

■ Education is the basic goal on which countries build the first steps to reach the highest levels of progress, as it is a fundamental human right.

■ Emphasizing the role of the Ministry in committing to providing education for children, the elderly and those who have missed the opportunity to obtain the right to education.

The celebration witnessed the presentation of two video presentations on the achievements of the Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to honoring a group of distinguished and influential people in the education sector. It is noteworthy that the celebration was attended by a number of advisors, undersecretaries of ministries, heads of bodies and agencies, general managers, university presidents and professors, deans of colleges, representatives of ministries and entities not affiliated with a ministry, representatives of UNESCO and a number of international agencies and organizations operating in Iraq, civil society organizations and relevant parties.
