Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University Discusses a PhD Dissertation on Developing Smart Filters for Modern Wireless Communications
The Engineering Technical College of Najaf at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University discussed a PhD dissertation submitted by researcher Amjad Abdul Sattar Maseer from the Department of Communications Engineering Technologies. The dissertation was entitled:
“Design and Development of Reconfigurable and Tunable Dual-Band Bandpass Filters Based on Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) and Half-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (HMSIW) Technologies for Multi-Band Wireless Communication Applications.”
The dissertation aimed to design and develop innovative models of reconfigurable and tunable filters capable of meeting the requirements of modern multi-frequency wireless communication systems. This was achieved through advanced filter analysis and design techniques, with practical validation of their performance through fabrication and laboratory measurements.
The results demonstrated the success of the proposed designs in achieving dual-band operation with independent control of operating frequencies and bandwidths. The filters also exhibited high selectivity, low insertion losses, and compact dimensions, making them highly suitable for modern communication applications, including 5G systems and other multi-band wireless communication technologies.
The dissertation concluded that Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) and Half-Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (HMSIW) technologies represent promising solutions for the development of advanced microwave-frequency components, offering high operational efficiency, design flexibility, and strong integration potential with future communication systems.
