The ceremony was held in an atmosphere of joy and celebration, with a large gathering of students and staff of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University. The event was attended by the President of the Islamic University, Professor Dr. Ammar Al-Salami, in addition to a number of distinguished guests and official and academic figures. Also present were Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadai, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Mohsen Al-Majtumi, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, as well as several deans of colleges and institutes and directors of departments at the University Presidency.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an, delivered by the University’s reciter, Assistant Professor Mu’in Mohsen Al-Rubaie, followed by the recitation of Surat Al-Fatiha in honor of the martyrs of principle and faith, and then the Iraqi national anthem.

In his address, the President of the University highlighted the virtues of the Commander of the Faithful (peace be upon him), drawing upon references from the Holy Qur’an and the purified Prophetic Sunnah. He emphasized that Imam Ali (peace be upon him) embodies the pinnacle of knowledge and wisdom in Islam, as he is regarded as the Gate of the knowledge of the Messenger of God (may God’s blessings and peace be upon him and his family), and the first to lay the foundations of Islamic knowledge after him. He further noted that Imam Ali’s eloquence and profound knowledge of the Qur’an and its interpretation constituted an authentic reference that profoundly influenced jurists, exegetes, philosophers, and theologians across the ages, forming a solid foundation for Islamic thought from which academic institutions continue to derive the values of knowledge, awareness, and rigorous methodology.

He further explained that Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), who was born to two Hashemite parents, embodied the noblest qualities of this distinguished family, including intelligence, loyalty, freedom, and nobility of character. He was a man who combined compassion and love for God’s servants with generosity, magnanimity, and unparalleled courage. His birth in the Holy Kaaba is a unique distinction, as no one before or after him was born therein. Moreover, his biography reflects the highest meanings of humanity, particularly in his kind and compassionate treatment of orphans. The President called upon the audience to emulate his example in caring for society and instilling noble values.

As a gesture reflecting loyalty and appreciation, the ceremony also witnessed the honoring of a number of retired employees who had reached the legal retirement age, in recognition of their years of dedication and sincere efforts in serving the University and the educational process.

The ceremony further included a humanitarian initiative that embodied the lofty Alid values, represented by the honoring of one hundred (100) orphans. This initiative reaffirmed the societal role of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and its continuous commitment to supporting orphans and promoting the principles of social solidarity.

It is noteworthy that this event is held annually as an expression of the University’s humanitarian and social mission, and as part of its sustained approach to serving the community and caring for deserving groups.

The ceremony featured a variety of religious and cultural segments, including the recitation of poetry and religious chants performed by the chanting ensemble of the Holy Alawite Shrine, which expressed the esteemed status of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and reflected a spirit of love and devotion.
