Under the blessings of God, the second meeting was held today, Wednesday, 25th October 2023, which was a joint meeting between the Deans’ Committee and the Curriculum Development and Enhancement Committee for Administrative Specializations in Technical Universities, hosted by the Presidency of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, the university president, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of technical education in equipping the job market with the required skills. This can be achieved through enhancing the educational process, addressing the country’s greatest challenge, which is reducing unemployment rates and creating real job opportunities for graduates. This necessitates updating the curricula and training programs in scientific departments within colleges and technical institutes, as well as leveraging the Industrial Advisory Council and their involvement in the colleges’ and institutes’ councils.
Following the university president’s speech, the joint meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Jaber Ali Hussein, Assistant Professor and Dean of the College of Administrative Technology in Basra, who is also the head of the Deans’ Committee, and Prof. Dr. Fadel Abdul Abbas Al-Abadi
Dean of the College of Administrative Technology in Kufa, who is the head of the Curriculum Development and Enhancement Committee. The meeting was attended by deans and members of both committees.
The meeting discussed the agenda items, which included several important topics referred to the committees from the Ministry’s departments or the technical universities. This included the discussion of a letter from the Curriculum Development and Enhancement Department, which represents the implementation of the recommendations of the Curriculum Development Committee meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters, requiring joint cooperation between the two committees.
Moreover, the meeting discussed the introduction of a new specialization in technical education, specifically in Supply Chain Management, as well as adding a new course on Artificial Intelligence to other non-computer specializations. This is due to the importance of this subject, which has become crucial in all fields, in light of the rapid progress witnessed by the world in the field of information technology.
The meeting also addressed the topic of enriching the curricula in light of the directives of the Study, Planning, and Monitoring Department at the ministry.
Agreements on a number of recommendations and proposals were reached during the meeting, which will be forwarded by the relevant committees for approval.
