Under the patronage of the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Lateef Al-Zubaidi, and with the direct guidance and supervision of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadai, and as part of the activities of Anti-Drug Week, the Continuing Education Division at the Central Library— in cooperation with the Human Rights Division, the Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Najaf Al-Ashraf, and the Subcommittee for Combating Extremism and Violence Leading to Terrorism in Najaf—organized an awareness seminar and competition on combating drugs titled:
“Addiction Between Illusion and Reality… How Do We Protect Our Children?”
The event was attended by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadai, along with a large number of university staff and students. The seminar featured the following speakers:
Mr. Faez Raheem Abdulameer – Head of the Media and Relations Division at the Directorate of Narcotics Affairs, Najaf Al-Ashraf.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Sahera Ayed Abdul Sahib – Director of the Central Library.
Asst. Lecturer Wasan Thabit Rasheed – Head of the Human Rights Division.
Mr. Kazem Matar Kanawi – Computer Center.
The activities aimed to:
Raise awareness by introducing students to the different types of drugs, including digital drugs.
Highlight the severe health, psychological, social, and legal consequences of drug abuse.
Strengthen prevention by providing students with the knowledge and skills needed to protect themselves and their peers from falling into this danger.
Activate the role of institutions and emphasize the responsibility of the university and the community in combating drugs and reporting them.
A discussion session was opened for questions related to the topic, enriching the dialogue and enhancing interactive understanding.
In a parallel scientific event, an awareness competition for students was held in cooperation with the Nursing Department at the Kufa Technical Institute, aimed at encouraging research and exploration in the field of drug prevention and control.
The activities concluded with the following recommendations:
Intensifying awareness campaigns and ensuring the university continues to organize workshops, seminars, and initiatives that regularly raise awareness about the dangers of drugs.
Strengthening the role of the family by urging institutions to educate families about the importance of monitoring their children and fostering positive values at home.
Activating the legal aspect by emphasizing the importance of enforcing strict laws against promoters and users to ensure a safe university and community environment.
Supporting mental health by providing psychological support and counseling services for students as a preventive and therapeutic step against addiction.
