Under the patronage of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, the Women’s Affairs Division and the Continuing Education Center at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, in cooperation with the National Security Service, the National Security Directorate in Najaf, organized a workshop entitled (Electronic Blackmail: Prevention and Protection Strategies)
The workshop was attended by Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of the University, who expressed his support for these initiatives for their importance in raising awareness in society and enhancing protection for women and all segments of society in the face of digital threats.
He praised the efforts made by the organizing bodies and lecturers to provide educational and practical content that contributes to empowering women and youth to confront electronic blackmail.
In her opening speech, the Women’s Affairs Officer at the University Presidency, Ms. Ikhlas Razzaq Naham, stated that the workshop is one of the activities of the division within the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, which is held under the patronage of the University President and aims to raise community awareness and enhance support and protection for women in the face of all forms of violence, including digital violence. The workshop included two lectures. The first lecture was given by Dr. Khitam Abdul Hassan Shanan, in which she discussed the theoretical aspect of defining electronic blackmail and its various forms. While the second lecture, given by Colonel Engineer Ali Muhammad Majeed, included the practical aspect of how to deal with cases of blackmail and the necessary legal procedures, and digital prevention and protection strategies. The symposium witnessed dialogues and discussions between the attendees, male and female students and affiliates, which concluded with several recommendations, the most important of which was providing psychological and legal support to the affected women, and working to change the society’s view of those exposed to a case of electronic blackmail, as it has an impact in pushing the affected person to report the case and arrest the perpetrator, and the necessity of combining the efforts of all concerned ministries, such as the Ministry of Communications, the Ministry of Interior, and others, to educate the segments of society about the danger of the misuse of digital devices.
