Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and under the direct supervision of Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadi, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, and within the framework of the university’s efforts to promote the concepts of sustainable development and enhance institutional performance, the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University organized a scientific workshop entitled:
“Sustainable Development: A Future Vision at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University within Global Rankings.”
In his opening speech, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanem Wadi, emphasized the importance of teamwork and the integration of roles in supporting the sustainable development file, highlighting its direct impact on strengthening the environmental and social dimensions and achieving comprehensive development within the university institution.
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Hussein Awad Al-Abadi, Head of the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance, and Assistant Lecturer Rusul Sattar Badr, Officer of the Sustainable Development Unit. The workshop was attended by Sustainable Development Liaison Officers from the colleges and institutes of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, in addition to members of the Quality Assurance and University Performance Department team, which is considered a central entity closely linked to sustainable development outputs due to its essential role in monitoring institutional performance, ensuring the quality of initiatives and activities, and transforming them into measurable indicators that contribute to supporting global rankings and achieving sustainable impact.
The workshop addressed the concept of sustainable development and its environmental, social, and economic dimensions, with a focus on mechanisms for transforming the efforts and capacities of the university into measurable activities and projects that contribute to achieving a tangible and effective impact, positively reflected in global rankings and the university’s academic reputation.
Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the requirements of global rankings related to sustainable development and emphasized the importance of strategic planning in selecting workshop topics and activities. It also underscored the need to convey a clear message to university formations regarding the role of modern technology, building effective networks with civil society organizations and governmental institutions, and achieving mutual communication and joint projects that serve the university—particularly innovative projects—while emphasizing the role of technological incubators in supporting these efforts.
The workshop witnessed participation from the private sector, represented by Mr. Mohammed Shaheen, a representative of Al-Mutasawiq Company, who spoke about the role of the private sector in supporting educational outcomes, providing employment opportunities, and opening avenues for joint cooperation between the university and private institutions in a manner that serves the labor market and enhances sustainable development.
This workshop comes as part of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University’s orientation toward consolidating a culture of sustainable development and achieving integration between education, scientific research, and community service, in a way that ensures a sustainable, measurable institutional impact.
