Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, the University participated in the Iraqi Universities Handball Championship, which witnessed broad participation from public universities as well as private universities and colleges.

The championship was organized under the supervision of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority – Department of Student Activities at the Ministry, as part of the student activities program for the academic year 2025–2026 / second semester. The tournament was hosted by University of Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya University, Gilgamesh University, and Ashur University, and was attended by a distinguished group of academic and sports figures.

Representing Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University in the championship was a distinguished team of students from the College of Health and Medical Technologies / Kufa, Al-Rumaitha Technical Institute, and Babylon Technical Institute. The team was supervised by a specialized coaching staff consisting of Mr. Hussein Ali Abd Yasser (Team Supervisor), Mr. Mohammed Raji (Head Coach), and Captain Mudhar Abdul Karim (Assistant Coach). The team delivered an active and commendable performance, reflecting the University’s commitment to supporting sports activities and strengthening its consistent presence in various ministerial sporting championships.

The University was placed in Group B alongside Al-Mustansiriya University, Al-Farahidi University, Al-Israa University, and Al-Ameed University.

The University team played several significant matches, during which it demonstrated a distinguished level of performance that earned widespread praise, reflecting the team’s technical competence and physical preparedness.

It is noteworthy that, on the sidelines of the technical meeting prior to the official draw, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University was honored with the Shield of Excellence in recognition of its efforts and effective contribution to hosting the championship, in appreciation of its role in ensuring the success of the event and promoting university sports activities.
