In a grand academic and national setting, Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University was further distinguished today with the announcement of the transformation of Kufa Technical Institute into Kufa Polytechnic College. The event was attended by a distinguished group of government, official, and academic figures, marking a significant step that reflects the state’s direction toward strengthening technical education.
The official ceremony was held at the Institute’s premises under the patronage of the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, and under the supervision and follow-up of the Dean of Kufa Polytechnic College, Professor Dr. Atheer Kadhim Abadi.
The ceremony was attended by Member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mr. Ahmed Majid Al-Sharmani; a representative of the First Deputy Governor of Najaf, Mr. Imad Al-Jazairi; the deans of the university’s colleges and institutions; as well as a number of official and academic figures and a large gathering of the college’s staff.
The attendees observed a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs, followed by the national anthem. However, the most significant moment of the event went beyond protocol: the announcement of the birth of a new distinguished college in the heart of the Middle Euphrates region.
In his speech during the ceremony, the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University said:
“Today, we gather to celebrate the establishment of Kufa Polytechnic College as a significant milestone in the journey of our university and as a response to the growing need for more technical and applied education that is closely connected to the labor market, development requirements, and technological transformations.
The establishment of this college does not merely represent a change in the academic structure; rather, it reflects a transformation in the philosophy of education—from an approach that focuses solely on knowledge to one that integrates knowledge with skills, study with practical application, and the university with the working environment.
The significance of this transformation is further enhanced by the restructuring and introduction of academic specializations that respond to the needs of the present and the future, foremost among them Electrical Technologies, Materials Management, and Artificial Intelligence Technologies.
While Electrical Technologies constitute an important foundation for industry and energy, and Materials Management represents a key pillar of supply chains and logistics operations, Artificial Intelligence Technologies provide a window into the future and affirm our commitment to modern technological specializations and the knowledge economy.
Our ambition does not stop at establishing the college. It extends to building a pioneering polytechnic education model in which laboratories serve as environments for experimentation, projects provide solutions to real-world problems, partnerships with the labor market form an integral part of the educational process, and innovation and entrepreneurship become fundamental pathways in students’ academic lives.
At the conclusion of his speech, he expressed his thanks and appreciation to all committees and scientific, administrative, and technical personnel, as well as everyone who contributed to reaching this important day. This achievement is the result of institutional work, the integration of efforts, and a firm belief that our university must prepare for the future before it arrives.
We look forward to this college becoming an extension of Kufa’s scientific and civilizational heritage, expressed in the language of the present and equipped with the tools of the future; a distinguished institution for applied science, an incubator for innovation, and a bridge between the university and the labor market.”
For his part, the Dean of Kufa Polytechnic College stated:
“Today, we gather to celebrate the transformation of Kufa Technical Institute into Kufa Polytechnic College. This transformation does not merely represent a change in the academic title; rather, it reflects an ambitious strategic step and a qualitative shift in the journey of technical and applied education in Iraq.
For decades, Kufa Technical Institute has been a productive and generous academic institution, providing national institutions and society with thousands of qualified technical professionals and highly competent expertise. Today, we open a new chapter marked by the transition to the modern polytechnic system, enabling us to keep pace with scientific and technological developments and providing our dear students with broader opportunities for advanced education and training that connect scientific knowledge with practical and applied aspects in a deeper and more effective manner.
This achievement would not have seen the light of day without the sincere efforts and integration of visions among the leadership of our beloved university, represented by the respected University President and the Assistant Presidents, in addition to the continuous and exceptional dedication of all college personnel, including professors, researchers, administrators, and technicians. To all of them, we extend our deepest thanks, appreciation, and respect.
In conclusion, we affirm that today’s ceremony and your valuable participation are a testament to your belief in the importance of this scientific institution. We are delighted to have such distinguished academic figures among us to share together the joy of this academic achievement. We ask Almighty God to grant us all success in serving our scientific and educational mission and in raising the name of our beloved Iraq high in all fields.”
The ceremony also featured a documentary film prepared by the College’s Media and Government Communication Division, documenting the journey of achievement and institutional transformation, including the establishment of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Technologies, as well as the transformation of the existing departments into the Department of Electrical Engineering Technologies and the Department of Materials Management Technologies.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and commemorative shields to the honorees, amid an atmosphere of pride and recognition of the efforts being made to serve and advance the educational institution.
