Al-Musayyib Sheds the “Institute” Mantle and Embraces the Polytechnic Identity
In a move that closes one chapter and opens another, the Technical Institute of Al-Musayyib has officially been transformed into the Al-Musayyib Polytechnic College. The transformation, celebrated by the university today, is not merely a change of signboard; rather, it represents a commitment to producing a generation of skilled technicians capable of operating hospitals, banks, and factories—not merely obtaining academic certificates.
The ceremony was attended by the President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi; the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Mohammed Al-Majtoumi; the deans of the university’s colleges and formations; as well as a number of academic and community figures and a large gathering of college staff.
The attendees observed a minute of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs, followed by the national anthem. However, the most significant moment of the event went beyond protocol: the announcement of the birth of a new college in the heart of the Middle Euphrates region.
Al-Zubaidi described the transformation as a “qualitative step,” marking the transition from a technical workshop into a hub for developing skilled minds. The most significant announcement came with the opening of the Financial and Banking Technologies Department and the Medical Devices Technologies Department—two specializations that directly address the questions that concern graduates most: Where will I work? And what skills will I have?
Al-Zubaidi emphasized that this transformation represents a qualitative step in the development of technical education and reflects the efforts made by the university to develop its academic formations and elevate the level of its academic and applied programs.
He noted that Al-Musayyib Polytechnic College represents a new phase that opens broader horizons for students in technical specializations and contributes to preparing specialized professionals equipped with scientific and practical skills that align with the requirements of the labor market.
The Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Malik Nima Hawas Al-Khazraji, did not limit his remarks to celebration. He stated frankly: “This is both an achievement and a responsibility.” This responsibility, he explained, means doubling efforts to develop the college’s infrastructure, modernize its curricula, academic programs, and technical specializations, strengthen the college’s position, and achieve its scientific and educational objectives—so that graduates do not remain confined to a certificate alone.
He also expressed his pride in this achievement, appreciating the continued support provided by the Presidency of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and the significant efforts made by the college’s staff throughout its development journey, culminating in the realization of this well-deserved milestone.
The ceremony also featured a speech by Dr. Raflaa Al-Hajeeshi, who addressed the importance of the transformation and its role in supporting the advancement of technical education.
The documentary film screened during the ceremony did more than present old photographs; it documented the college’s journey from an institute that trained technicians to a college capable of graduating future technical leaders.
The field tour conducted by the University President through the Scientific Complex building and the graduation platform delivered the clearest message: the next phase requires hard work, diligence, practical training, and development, not celebrations alone.
The ceremony concluded with a recognition ceremony. Yet the true recognition will come when a graduate of the Medical Devices Technologies Department finds a place in a hospital, and a graduate of the Financial and Banking Technologies Department finds a position in a bank.
