Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, President of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, and Dr. Muhanad Abdul Zahra Al-Khaghani, Director of the Reconstruction and Projects Department at the University Presidency, participated in the first official meeting to launch the National Digital Documentation Project for Architectural Heritage in Iraq, hosted by the University of Technology. The meeting was attended by the Scientific Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Haider Abdul Dahd, a number of university professors, the engineering team at the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Technical Affairs Department at the Intelligence Agency.

The project is a pioneering national initiative to document important historical buildings and historical city centers as a fundamental step to enhance the historical and heritage identity of Iraq and preserve its material and historical heritage. The first phase of the project will begin with documenting the architectural heritage at the Holy Al-Askari Shrine site and the old city of Najaf Al-Ashraf.

In his speech, Al-Zuhairy emphasized the importance of this project, which is the first of its kind in Iraq, especially as it is being implemented by local expertise and competencies. He also affirmed the university’s readiness to provide all its capabilities to support this important project.

It is worth mentioning that this project is supported by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Iraqi Intelligence Agency, and the Holy Shrines.
