To raise awareness about the health-related consequences of climate change, the Women’s Affairs Division at the Presidency of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, in collaboration with the Community Health Department at the Technical Institute of Kufa, organised a training workshop entitled “The Impact of Climate Change on Immune and Physical Health.”
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadday, Vice President for Scientific Affairs, who expressed appreciation for the ongoing efforts of the Women’s Affairs Division, recognising it as one of the university’s most active and engaged units. In his remarks, he emphasised the growing importance of health education programs that aim to foster a healthier environment, underscoring the need for joint efforts across institutions to achieve this goal.
Also, he advocated for expanding inter-university cooperation in training and education, stressing the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences in addressing climate-related challenges.
The workshop was delivered by faculty members Dr. Sarah Hassan Kazem and Dr. Zahraa Kareem Taiban, who provided an in-depth overview of the effects of climate change on the human body. The sessions discussed the root causes behind environmental shifts and explored strategies and recommendations to reduce their harmful impacts and support sustainable living conditions.
Ms. Ikhlas Razzaq Naham, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, conveyed her appreciation to the University Vice President for his supportive guidance and to the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, for his unwavering encouragement of women’s leadership initiatives at the university.
This workshop is part of a broader series of activities aimed at fulfilling the objectives of Iraq’s Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security, particularly the axis of protection and prevention. The event was designed for female employees and academic staff, with participation from male faculty and staff as well.
