Middle Euphrates Technical University Advances Its Vision of a Green, Smart Campus Following Visit to Koya University
As part of efforts to strengthen digital transformation and institutional sustainability under the TVET III project, and under the slogan “From Strategy to Implementation: Green and Digital Institutional Transformation,” Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University has concluded its scientific visit to Koya University in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
The delegation was headed by the President of the University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, accompanied by the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadi, and the Dean of the Higher Institute for Nanotechnology for Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Bashar Jabbar Hamza. The visit took place on Friday, 23 October 2026, to attend a meeting organized by UNESCO under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Development Project (TVET III).
The meeting brought together a distinguished group of presidents of technical universities and representatives of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research in both the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government. The strategic gathering aimed to shape the future of higher technical education in Iraq and facilitate the exchange of insights and expertise in digital transformation, environmental sustainability, and institutional innovation.
The visit showcased a range of advanced practices and applications in smart campus management, e-learning systems, and digital infrastructure, as well as sustainable practices in energy, water, and waste management. Field visits provided an opportunity to examine practical models and explore how these approaches could be adapted and implemented within the academic environments of Iraq’s technical universities.
The University President also participated in a high-level discussion addressing mechanisms for translating strategic planning into effective institutional implementation, ways to strengthen integration and cooperation among universities, and the development of practical, applicable operational models that contribute to improving academic and administrative performance.
This participation reflects the commitment of the Presidency of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University to academic openness, the effective adoption of leading international experiences, and the expansion of strategic partnerships in line with its vision for modernizing its educational system and developing its institutional infrastructure.
This initiative reaffirms that Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University no longer views digital transformation and sustainability merely as slogans, but as an institutional course of action. Through this approach, the university seeks to transform its campus into a living laboratory for innovation, where technology and environmental responsibility converge to create an Iraqi university model comparable to leading international practices.
