An afforestation campaign was launched at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University and its colleges and institutes spread across (Najaf Al-Ashraf, Muthanna, Al-Qadisiyyah, Babylon, and Holy Karbala) within its geographical area. This campaign was initiated by the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, based on an initiative by the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, aiming to plant five million trees and palm trees across the country.
In his speech to the media department, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Abbas, Director of the Diwan Department and responsible for monitoring the campaign in cooperation with Mr. Amir Al-Dhabbahawi, Head of the Agricultural Division, stated that the department has begun overseeing the implementation of the campaign.
He explained that the streets and corridors to be included in the campaign within the university headquarters and its formations have been identified, ensuring performance monitoring. Additionally, there will be recognition for the formation that achieves the best afforestation results.
The University President pointed out that this campaign is distinct from its predecessors, emphasizing that each formation is assigned to afforest the streets and corridors of its administrative site, ensuring full afforestation and a two-year follow-up to maintain the seedlings and ensure their sustainability.
He added that the Agricultural Division has taken the responsibility of providing approximately 1,000 seedlings as a first step at the university headquarters. These include Washingtonia palm, Poinciana, Bombax tree, Acacia, Cassia, Eucalyptus, and Bougainvillea, in addition to the seedlings planted by volunteer teams involved in the campaign.
