The Al-Musayyib Technical College at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University witnessed the defense of a master’s thesis presented by researcher Bushra Ghanim Salem from the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies. The thesis was entitled:
“Mechanical Properties and Beam Structural Behavior of Sustainable Reactive Powder Concrete Incorporating Waste Materials.”
The study aimed to develop a more sustainable Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) by utilizing waste glass powder and mortar waste as partial replacements for cement and natural sand. It also evaluated the effects of these recycled materials on the mechanical properties and structural behavior of concrete beams, with the objective of reducing environmental impact and conserving natural resources without compromising structural performance.
The findings demonstrated that the optimum proportions of recycled materials enhanced the compressive strength and several other mechanical properties while maintaining satisfactory structural performance of the beams. These results confirm the feasibility of producing sustainable reactive powder concrete that combines high performance with environmental sustainability, while supporting the recycling of construction waste and reducing the consumption of virgin raw materials.
