As part of the National Afforestation Day initiative launched by His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, and in alignment with the celebrations at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, the university has undertaken various innovative agricultural projects. Under the direct supervision of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, and in collaboration with the Agricultural Research Department – Najaf Research Section at the Ministry of Agriculture, tissue-cultured seedlings of the Egyptian banana variety (Grand Nain) have been planted under controlled agricultural conditions.
The university president attended the event along with a delegation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Professor Dr. Hassan Nouri Abdulwahab. Distinguished Professor Dr. Raad Taha, the project supervisor, provided a detailed explanation of the cultivation, production, and propagation techniques of this banana variety. Accompanying the University President were Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Ahmed Ghanim Wadday and Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Machtomi, as well as Mr. Mohammed Abbas Abdul, Director of the Office Affairs Department; Mr. Amir Al-Thubthawi, Head of the Agricultural Division; Dr. Mohammed Mahbuba, Director of the Student Affairs Department; and Mr. Sarhan Al-Hijami, Director of the Follow-up Department.
