Following an invitation from the UNESCO office in Baghdad, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, chancellor of Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University (ATU), attended the second directive committee meeting held in Baghdad within the framework of the project (Reform of Technical and Vocational Education and Training – Phase II). Representatives of the General Secretariat of Ministers’ advisory body, representatives of the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Education, Labor, Social Affairs, and Planning, chancellors of technical universities in the center and region, representatives of UNESCO, the European Union, and the private sector attended the meeting.
The conference featured presentations on the project’s progress and a discussion of the work plan for education and vocational training as well as activities for the subsequent time.
The meeting also featured a summary of the progress made in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Law and areas that need the assistance of members of the Directive Committee.
Al-Zuhairy, for his part, referred to the challenges confronting technical and vocational education in his speech and offered a set of proposals to overcome these challenges while also pointing to many success stories recorded by technical universities through the optimal investment of available resources and self-potential.
