The Women’s Affairs Unit at the Technical Institute of Al-Musayyib, affiliated with the Middle Euphrates Technical University, organized an awareness lecture in cooperation with the Community Police entitled: “Breaking the Silence: Confronting Domestic Violence and Negative Phenomena Against Women.” This initiative falls ضمن the implementation plan of the Iraqi National Strategy for Women لعام 2026, specifically within محور three / clause one.
The lecture was held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, and was delivered by Mr. Khaldoun Mohammed Obaid, a member of the Community Police, in the presence of a number of female participants. The session addressed the dimensions of domestic violence, mechanisms for its mitigation, and the institutional and societal roles in addressing it.
The lecture aimed to foster a safe environment that protects women’s rights and preserves their dignity through a set of strategic objectives, أبرزها:
Strengthening legal and legislative frameworks by supporting the enactment of deterrent laws criminalizing all forms of domestic violence, while ensuring safe and confidential reporting mechanisms.
Raising societal awareness by dismantling misconceptions that justify violence and promoting a culture of mutual respect and partnership within the family.
Empowering women economically and socially to enhance their independence and reduce dependency, alongside providing psychological support and rehabilitation services for survivors.
Developing monitoring and intervention systems through the establishment of accurate databases and the professional training of security and healthcare personnel in handling cases of violence.
These efforts are expected to yield a range of positive outcomes at both the individual and societal levels, including improved psychological and physical well-being of women, reduction in the repercussions of violence, and the creation of a healthy family environment grounded in dialogue and respect—thereby contributing to the upbringing of more balanced generations. Additionally, they are anticipated to enhance family stability, increase women’s economic participation, ensure legal deterrence for perpetrators, strengthen public trust in official institutions, and reinforce the rule of law.
This initiative reflects the commitment of the Middle Euphrates Technical University to its educational and societal role, as well as its ongoing efforts to support women’s issues and enhance their status across various domains, in alignment with national and international trends in human rights and gender equality.
