Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University, represented by its President Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi, participated in the Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Its Applications, held at the Islamic University in Najaf Al-Ashraf on the morning of Saturday, April 26, 2025. The event was organized in cooperation with Islamic Azad University – Najaf Abad Branch (Iran), and under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Eng. Youssef Kanawi, Governor of Najaf, along with a distinguished group of academics, researchers, and specialists in artificial intelligence from various universities and governmental and private institutions.
The conference, held under the theme “Artificial Intelligence: A Tool for Achieving Sustainable Development”, addressed the latest scientific and research advancements in AI applications across fields such as smart cities, industry, education, healthcare, and sustainable development. The program featured specialized scientific sessions to discuss research papers, in addition to an exhibition showcasing Iranian companies and several Iraqi universities focused on innovations in AI.
During his visit to Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University’s booth at the exhibition, the Deputy Minister praised the university’s achievements and initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. He expressed admiration for the displayed projects and highlighted the importance of the Ninth Amendment to the Ministry’s Law, which allows the establishment of companies by innovative university students.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Hassan Latif Al-Zubaidi emphasized the importance of intensifying joint research efforts to harness AI technologies in support of comprehensive development. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to keeping pace with global scientific advancements and strengthening the role of research in serving society.
The conference opening was also attended by Mr. Ali Abdul Hussein Al-Dhalimi, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department at the University Presidency, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Amir Hussein Mohammed, Head of the Rehabilitation and Employment Division.
